Rescue Polar Bears: Data & Temperature 1-4 Player Coop Game

Created by Seth Hiatt

The consumption of fossil fuel and releasing of greenhouse gases yield the global warming. Around the north pole, the last icebergs are melting and the polar bears are facing the risk of being extinct. The players form a scientific organization. They try to collect data about climate change to persuade the governments to change their energy policy. At the same time, they also need to prevent polar bears from sinking into the freezing water.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

*Insert* Polar Bears Here
about 6 years ago – Tue, Apr 17, 2018 at 01:46:00 AM

Many of you have been asking about the insert for the game. It is a pretty great insert! It stores all the game components very well and we think you'll all be very pleased!

Those who have seen the insert before have said they think it is one of the better inserts they have seen in a game! We love it too! It is pretty well thought out. All of the components fit perfectly into the insert and then with the cards and board placed on top, the game can be stored horizontally or vertically with no problem!

Plastic is OUT! Resin is IN!

The Resin Polar Bears are Back!!!

As promised, we listened to the feedback from all of you when you said you were unhappy with the look of the plastic polar bear meeples. We also know many of you really love the original resin meeples in the current version of the game and over the last few days we've been working hard to make this happen for you...

For this Kickstarter print run only, we are doing the original resin polar bear meeples!!! That's right! These will be the adorable-faced original resin polar bear meeples you have all seen and come to love!

This will be a LIMITED print run. Only 2,000 copies will be made with these resin polar bear meeples! So if you want to make sure you get this English translation with these resin polar bear meeples...this Kickstarter is your way to do it!

We are SO excited that we are able to do this, and that's the good news!

The bad news is that any reprints for retail after these 2,000 copies will be the plastic polar bear meeples. We don't know what the final design will be. They very well may be the "mustache version." So here's your chance at the adorable-faced resin meeples!

New Stretch Goals!

Along with the resin polar bears, we have been able to work out a couple of stretch goals! We will be adding a $50k stretch goal and a $60k stretch goal!

Those stretch goals will be "Ice Dice."

So what exactly are "Ice Dice?"  Well, The game comes with a 20-sided die and a custom 6-sided die. The stretch goals will be translucent blue "icy" versions of those dice! At $50k you would unlock the custom 6-sided "Ice die" and at $60k you will unlock the 20-sided "Ice die!"

We will be posting the graphics for those stretch goals to the main campaign page ASAP!

Fun Polar Bear Facts!

Did you know that the Polar Bear is generally the largest in terms of average size of the breed. The males usually stand between 8 and 8 1/2 feet and weigh between 900 and 1500 lbs. The largest male weighed 2,210 lbs.

That said, however, the largest bear found was a male Kodiak (a brown bear): he was 14 feet tall and 2500 lbs. On average, however, the Kodiak is 800-1500 lbs and stand 5-10 feet tall. Overall, they're much more dense than Polar Bears, but Polars are still bigger.

Fun Polar Bear Facts

Did you know that polar bears actually have black skin? Their skin is black in order to absorb heat to help them stay warm, but their fur appears white so they can blend in with their environment. Polar bear hair looks white because the air spaces in the hairs scatter light of all colors. When something reflects all of the visible wavelengths of light, we see the color white. Their fur is thicker than any other species of bears' fur and covers even their feet for warmth and traction on the ice. A thick layer of blubber beneath their fur also provides insulation and buoyancy.

Polar Bear Meeples

Many of you have asked about the new plastic polar bear meeples and we want to let you know not to worry about their quality. They are a solid plastic that is not going to chip like resin and they have a much smoother surface. Their faces are also much easier to identify. But, as you can see from the picture below, the shapes are going to remain the same as the original polar bear meeples.

Check out the mustache on the father bear! How adorable is he?!

 Polar Bear Facts

Polar bears are only found in the Arctic. Their most important habitats are on the edges of pack ice where currents and wind interact, forming a continually melting and refreezing effect causing ice patches and open spaces in the ocean between sea ice. These are the areas where polar bears do their hunting because they can find the highest number of seals.

As the sea ice advances and retreats each season, a polar bear may travel thousands of miles per year to find food. Polar bears are found all through the Arctic region in 19 subpopulations, including Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland and Norway.

Polar Bear Facts

  • Except for females with cubs, polar bears are solitary animals. Polar bear pregnancies are triggered by a female’s body condition and environmental factors, most often between September and November. This process, known as delayed implantation, is an adaption that ensures polar bear cubs will be born to healthy mothers at a time when their chances for survival are greatest.
  • Polar bear cubs weigh a mere 1 pound (.45 kilograms) at birth. They are hairless and have their eyes closed and they are born blind, depending on their mother to keep them warm and fed.

  • Mama polar bears build a maternity den when her cubs are born and the cubs stay inside the den for as long as 60 days after birth. While in the maternity den the polar bear cubs not only stay safe from predators, they also get warm. Once they reach 2-months age, they will leave the den. By the time baby polar bears leave their dens, they weigh 10 – 15 kg (22 – 33 pounds).
  • Polar bear cubs can climb trees! That's right! Although there aren't many trees in the Arctic, when a polar bear family gets close to the trees the cubs often climb up the trees during playing. Adult male or a female bear cannot climb because they are too heavy to lift their weight.
